Your 2008 Federal and State income taxes are due April 15th, 2009!

April 7, 2009

In case you forgot, let me remind you that your 2008 Federal and State income tax returns are due by April 15th, 2009!  You must have your returns postmarked by that date, which is just a wee bit over a week away from today, or electronically filed to avoid any interest and penalties associated with your return.

Can you file an extension?  Sure, but why put it off?  You still have a week to complete your obligation.  You will most likely be getting a refund of the money you already paid to the IRS through the withholding bite taken out of every paycheck you earn.  Get your money back and file today!  If you elect to file an extension, you have to estimate your 2008 taxes, make a payment if you owe money, and pay interest to the IRS on any money that you owe the government.

Need help with your taxes?  Check out a few of the posts I wrote earlier this year about the weird information on your W-2, education tax credits, and the teacher tax credit.

I recommend using TaxAct's online software to quickly e-file your state and federal returns.  Best of all, it is totally FREE to file your Federal return through TaxAct!  For an extra $9.95, you can e-file your State return at the same time without having to enter any additional information!
