I'm between interviews right now. I'm sitting in a comfortable, floral patterned armchair having had two successful interviews that will likely result in future interviews when the vacancies are greenlit from anticipated to open status. I walked into the Convention Center on an 80/20 mix of pessimism and optimism. Having attended many of these cattle calls before, I am fully aware of the brevity and weightlessness of these TRD interviews.
I see a mix of first timers and old timers in attendance. I keep hearing the same "what's your background" small talk as the candidates huddle in their assigned rows awaiting the handshake from the district recruiter. Schools are filling open interview slots through a lottery process, the teaching job equivalent of Rod Roddy hollering a "COME ON DOWN" to the next contestant on The Price is Right. Overall, a pleasant atmosphere pervades the competitive nature of the event.
I have two interviews left with schools that do little to excite me. I have worked in these kinds of places before and I would rather not work in them again. Unfortunately, my experience makes me an ideal candidate for these jobs I do not want.
Good luck to everyone in attendance!
